Purpose-Driven Leadership: Geoff Thomas MBE and Nigel Murray inspire at K-Club

On Thursday, 19th September 2024, we hosted our latest K-Club event at the Everyman Cinema in Manchester City Centre with an outstanding turnout and two highly inspiring guest speakers. The morning was filled with invaluable insights, personal stories, and motivational moments. A massive thank you to our keynote speakers, Geoff Thomas MBE and Nigel Murray, for sharing their remarkable journeys and experiences.

Nigel Murray, MD of Booths, delivered a powerful talk on leadership and purpose, emphasising how staying true to these values has helped Booths flourish, even in challenging times. His leadership mantra, "it all starts with purpose," deeply resonated with the audience. Nigel also shared his personal story of cycling the entire 2021 Tour de France route, raising £1 million for Cure Leukaemia as part of the Tour21 team. His focus on People, Place, and Products provided great insights into how Booths continues to engage with its customers, colleagues, and communities to build an inclusive and sustainable future.

Our second speaker, Geoff Thomas MBE, gave a heartfelt and motivational interview. His football career with Crystal Palace and the England national team was just the beginning of his incredible journey. Geoff shared his survival story from leukaemia and his dedication to raising funds for Cure Leukaemia, including cycling the Tour de France — an event he has completed seven times! His relentless efforts to help find a cure for blood cancer moved the audience deeply.

Highlights and Key Themes

This event provided not only an opportunity to learn from successful leaders but also a chance to network with professionals across various sectors. Some key takeaways from Nigel’s presentation included Booths’ commitment to:

  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

  • Net Zero and environmental adaptation

  • Supporting charity and community initiatives

  • Promoting the Real Food Movement and fostering Healthy Minds

Geoff’s message of endurance, resilience, and giving back through his work with Cure Leukaemia left everyone feeling truly inspired. His conversation with our event interviewer, Brian Wood, highlighted how personal adversity can be transformed into a powerful force for good.

Special Thanks

We extend our gratitude to Martyn Markland for expertly hosting the event, and to Amanda Manson, Sue Weighell, and Matthew Townsend for their efforts in organising the day. A special thank you to Catherine Bennett from The Access Group for her insightful introductions to the speakers.

Thank you to everyone who attended, and we look forward to seeing you at future K-Club events!
