About the event

Join us for a celebratory lunchtime event in support of Prevent Breast Cancer at the innovative Clink Restaurant within HMP Styal Prison.

The K-Club was formed in February 2011, but with Covid putting a stop to our 10 year anniversary plans, we decided that NOW is the time to celebrate!

We're combining this event with support for the charity, Prevent Breast Cancer.  They're currently raising funds for a capital project to build a National Breast Imaging Academy at Wythenshawe Hospital.  There are serious workforce shortages within breast imaging and these challenges have led to delays in breast cancer diagnosis, closure of breast centres, and reduced recruitment to research studies.  More details on the project can be found here.

Guests will enjoy a welcome drink, before being served a 3-course meal followed by tea/coffee, and will hear from our passionate speakers, whilst connecting with others from the region. All proceeds from this event will go to Prevent Breast Cancer.

Our Speakers are:

Sir Graham Brady

Sir Graham is the Member of Parliament for Altrincham & Sale West constituency and Chair of the 1922 committee. Born in Salford in 1967 he was educated at Altrincham Grammar School and Durham University where he studied law.

Graham first became active in the Conservative party when, aged 16, he joined a campaign to save the local grammar schools. At Graham's election in 1997 he was the youngest Conservative MP. In Parliament he has been opposition spokesman on employment, served as a whip and as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Rt Hon Michael Ancram when he was Party Chairman. He went onto become Shadow Minister for Schools; PPS to Michael Howard when he became Leader of the Opposition, and then Shadow Europe Minister. In 2010 he was elected Chairman of the 1922 Committee which represents the interests of backbench Conservative MPs and has continued in that position unchallenged since that date.

We are pleased that Sir Graham is able to join us at this event where he will share some of his experiences, including those particularly relevant to the local business community.

David Mason KC

David has worked as a criminal barrister for 37 years, becoming King’s Counsel (Queen’s at the time) in 2010, and specialises in serious criminal cases - both prosecuting and defending.

David will not be speaking in a professional capacity but in a personal capacity; his wife sadly passed away from breast cancer in November 2022.  David wanted to help prevent this dreaded disease and discovered the Prevent Breast Cancer charity, for which he's already raised over £10,000 and continues to do so with various fundraising stories.

David will share how breast cancer has affected his family and will talk about the work of the charity in preventing the disease for future generations.

The Clink Restaurant at HMP Styal is frequently in the top 10 restaurants in Wilmslow on TripAdvisor. It opened in 2015 and the delicious, high-quality meals are cooked and served by the prisoners in training who are working towards gaining their City & Guilds NVQs in Food & Beverage Service, Professional Cookery and Food Hygiene. Situated in a converted chapel, the restaurant allows prisoners to learn, engage with the public and take their first steps towards a new life. The Clink Charity has one of the lowest reoffending rates in the UK.

Huge thanks goes to our Event Sponsor Sue Weighell of Delta Solutions
